Float-out - Bohemia Interactive has announced a Play & Contribute Beta for their upcoming sci-fi game: Carrier Command: Gaea Mission. By participating, people will be able to make first contact and assist in the game's development process.

The beta, which will launch on April 6, offers a compressed version of the Strategic Campaign. Instead of following the Gaea Mission storyline, this mode spotlights the gameplay and is considered to be a great representative of the enormous amount of player freedom - as opposed to the more linear experiences seen in many other games.

Marek Španěl, founder and CEO of Bohemia Interactive, about the beta:

"Our aim is to open up the project so that people will be able to contribute not only in terms of funding, but also by helping us to further improve what we feel is already a great experience. For us, as an independent developer, involving outside enthusiasts like this is extremely valuable and we greatly appreciate the support of everyone willing to join in."

Also related to the beta is the decision to shift Carrier Command’s final release date to September 2012.

Marek Španěl explains:

"When we started this project in 2008, we set out to re-imagine the original Carrier Command in a way that captures the spirit of the 8/16-bit classic, while making optimal use of all the technical and game design opportunities available today. It has been a long and exciting journey, and now, after more than 3 years of passionate work, the game is even better than we had envisioned. Still, we remain dedicated to making it as solid as possible. By allowing it some more time and involving gamers directly, we hope to release a game that stands up to its great legacy. We plan to announce more specific release plans for Carrier Command: Gaea Mission by the end of this month."

People will be able to participate in the beta by seizing the regular Carrier Command: Gaea Mission P&C (19.99 EUR) or the premium Carrier Command: Gaea Mission P&C Supporter (39.99 EUR) deal on Bohemia Interactive’s online store - Store.bistudio.com.

The standard P&C pack provides access to the beta and - upon release - a free digital Store.bistudio.com copy of the full game. Those who are willing to confer maximum development support can opt in for the Carrier Command: Gaea Mission P&C Supporter pack, which ships with beta-access, a full game copy from Store.bistudio.com and Steam, plus the digital Gaea Universe soundtrack (composed by BAFTA winner Troels Brun Folmann). Both offers are available for a limited time.

Last but not least, on the day of the beta’s release, participants will be informed about how they can express their feedback.
